The scientific understanding of endocannabinoid and phyto-cannabinoid mechanisms of action in skin is rapidly evolving. 

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most prominent phyto-cannabinoid which displays anti-inflammatory and sebostatic properties in scientific studies. Emerging clinical evidence also suggests that CBD may have a promising dermato-cosmetic potential to help with:

  • seborrhea
  • eczema/dermatitis
  • skin barrier function

Cannabigerol (CBG) is also gaining much attention and ever-growing scientific and industry interest due to its powerful anti-oxidant as well as anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. CBG is also expected to become a staple dermato-cosmetic phyto-cananbinoid ingredient for:

  • eczema/dermatitis
  • psoriasis
  • skin barrier function

Cannabis sativa L. leaf extract 

Cannabis sativa L. leaf extracts are included in the European Cosmetic Ingredients database with the following properties:

  • skin conditioning
  • emollient

Depending on the source material and production methods, Cannabis sativa L. leaf extracts contain high concentrations (ranging from 30% up to 80%) of phyto-cannabinoids dominated by CBD or CBG.

Presence of phyto-cannabinoids makes  Cannabis sativa L. leaf extracts useful in cosmetic application by involving the skin endo-cannabinoid system.

Cannabis sativa L. terpenes

Depending on the production methods, Cannabis sativa L. leaf extracts, CBD and CBG extracts may also contain Cannabis sativa L. terpenes in varying concentrations (usually ranging 0,1%-2%).
